Santa Claus Parade, Kingston, Ontario
Can you believe it’s the last Friday of November already?!  How is your Christmas shopping going?  I haven’t even started yet – but I’ve thought about it a lot!  Ugh, I’ll get to it eventually.  In fact, tomorrow would be a great day to get started as it’s Small Business Saturday.  To help make up for the overindulgence of big box store sales that takes place on Black Friday (or at least to create a bit of awareness about our spending habits), there is the emergence of a new purchasing incentive: to buy locally, and tomorrow is the day.  Take a break from online shopping and dodging the crowds at the RioCan and take a stroll into some of our terrific and, in my humble opinion, far more unique local businesses.  I think you’d be pretty amazed at some of the great things our locally owned shops have to offer.

In addition to the locally owned businesses that line our streets, there will also be craft fairs running this weekend such as the Military Christmas Craft sale at KMCSC, the Creativity Juried Arts and Crafts Show at Olympic Harbour and remember Made 4 You?  Well they’ve re-opened a temporary shop in the Kingston Sustainability Centre.  You can start your local purchasing tonight by heading to Confederation Place Hotel where Modern Fuel will be launching the sale of their Art Cards in conjunction with Minotaur.

This is a great opportunity to show our local business owners how much we care about having them here and to give back to the community.  I know I’ll be hitting places like Vandervoort’s, The Angel’s Rake, Send in the Clowns, Rockit and Novel Idea tomorrow, and I’ll probably stop for a locally made, locally grown lunch as well.  Hope to see you out there!  Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks to nb|photo for today’s fun shot from last week’s Santa Claus Parade.
