Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning, advising of the potential for freezing rain forecasted for the Kingston area.
The weather warning was issued at 8:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024, and states that freezing rain is expected to begin this afternoon and end later this evening, with the possible accretion of two to five millimetres.
“Patchy freezing drizzle will affect the area today before a more significant area of freezing rain arrives this afternoon. The freezing rain may persist for several hours before changing to rain this evening,” Environment Canada said.
“For areas closer to Lake Ontario, freezing rain may not be as prolonged as temperatures may rise above the freezing mark sooner.”
The national weather agency warned that surfaces, such as highways, roads, parking lots, and walkways, may become icy and slippery, and ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
“Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada cautioned.
Freezing rain warnings are in effect across most of eastern Ontario. Visit Environment Canada’s weather alert page for the most up-to-date information.
