Environment Canada has now issued a freezing rain warning for Kingston and the area, as freezing rain is expected overnight and into early Saturday morning.
The national weather agency issued the warning at 3:17 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, and the warning is in effect for the Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, and Consecon areas.
“Rain or freezing rain will begin overnight or early Saturday morning and continue through Saturday morning. Ice accretion amounts up to 5 mm are possible with highest amounts expected over higher terrain,” the statement reads.
“Precipitation will change to snow Saturday afternoon with 10 to 15 cm of snowfall expected by Saturday night.”
Environment Canada advises that surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” the statement concludes.
