Free event in Springer Market Square will recognize local sustainability champions

Next week, Sustainable Kingston will recognize those in the community who have enhanced the livability and resiliency of Kingston with the 2023 Sustainable Kingston Awards.
For Sustainable Kingston COO Geoff Hendry, the awards are an excellent opportunity to shine a spotlight on people, businesses and organizations who contribute immensely and are sustainability champions in our community, but often fly under the radar.
“This year, the number and quality of the nominees was really inspiring,” Hendry stated. “We’re grateful for everyone who nominated someone for an award and for the nominees themselves who are all deserving of recognition.”
According to a release from Sustainable Kingston, everyone is welcome to attend the outdoor event which will take place in Springer Market Square at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023. The event will feature live music, local food, and a brief awards ceremony, and is free to the public.
The awards include:
- Sustainability Champion
- Youth Sustainability Champion (under 18)
- Youth Sustainability Champion (post-secondary)
- The Innovation Award
- Several Better Homes Kingston awards for businesses and individuals
This year, the Sustainable Kingston Awards will also recognize businesses and individuals engaged in the City of Kingston’s Better Homes Kingston (BHK) program who have reduced their own emissions significantly or who have helped make the program a success, according to the organization.
“As the providers of BHK Energy Coaching services, we’re proud to have helped Kingston homeowners achieve their home energy goals,” Hendry said. “However, we want to make sure the industry leaders and individual homeowners who have really embraced this program and made it a success, are also recognized for their leadership.”
Sustainable Kingston reiterated that members of the public are invited to attend the event, and congratulate the award winners in person. For more information, please contact Geoff Hendry at [email protected].
