There is something for everyone at the 2022 edition of The Festival of Live Digital Art (FOLDA) returning to Kingston Jun 8 to 11 at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.

After two years of exclusively online activations, the festival that didn’t need to ‘pivot’ to embrace the pandemic digital boom, is back with six events presented in multiple showings ranging from Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, International connection, and beta testing of new works.

“FOLDA is the only festival of its kind in North America,” said Artistic Director Adrienne Wong. “The 2022 festival provides a meeting point for artists and those who are curious about the limitless potential of digital performance, with a glimpse into how performance might be in the future.”

Performances originate from across Canada with a live, screen capture adaptation of Governor General Award nominee Christine Quintana’s SELFIE, and a livestream of Amy Amantea’s Through My Lens, where the artist shares her photography and what it is like to live with blindness, both originating from BC. Ways of Being by selfconscious productions is simultaneously performed to audiences in Kingston and Krakow, Poland and is presented in partnership with fellow Kingston Festival Kick & Push. The Maydee Box is an intimate one-on-one performance that explores the intersection of live theatre, digital art, Artist Rebecca Cuddy’s Métis heritage, as well as her visual arts practice. At the other end of the digital festival experience is You Should Have Stayed Home which explores the boundaries of performance with a VR adaptation of Tommy Taylor’s autobiographical re-telling of the frightening events that took place on the streets of Toronto during the 2010 G20 summit protests. Audiences can experience this show in VR, at an in-person screening or a one-night livestream on Friday, June 10.

The Festival has an exciting finale planned on Saturday, June 11 – a concert from Juno Award-winning The Halluci Nation with their genre-bending mix of hip-hop, reggae, dubstep and 1st nations musical traditions.
