Fleeing suspect remains at large

A suspect who fled from Kingston Police after a traffic stop on Thursday night remains at large.

A large contingent of Kingston Police officers, including the canine unit, converged on the area of the old Alcan/Novelis site in central Kingston at around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.

Kingston Police say the suspect, initially described as a white male, 25-30 years of age, and between 5’6 and 5’10 tall, fled on foot into the large and heavily grassed area bounded by Princess St, Sir John A MacDonald Blvd, and John Counter Blvd.

Police say the suspect was initially wearing blue jeans and a blue hoodie with a white t-shirt underneath, but at some point during the pursuit he removed and discarded his upper garments.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Kingston Police stated that the suspect was believed to have broken through the containment perimeter set up by Kingston Police, fleeing into the Strathcona Park area, and he remains at large. Kingston Police said they could not release any information regarding the reason for the initial traffic stop, citing a continuing investigation, but indicated there is no perceived risk to the public. Anyone with information is asked to call 613-549-4660, quoting case #20-18502.
