Police have charged a local man with a long list of charges after he refused to stop for police while riding his bicycle.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 15, 2020, uniformed patrol officers on Montreal Street near Weller Avenue observed three cyclists riding on the sidewalk with no proper lights or reflectors on the bicycles. When officers attempted to stop and identify the front cyclist, who had a hoodie concealing his face, the man tried to flee by going through an apartment complex to access Daly Street. The man, however, was apprehended in Shannon Park near Rideau Heights Public School.

The man was arrested and, upon being searched, a spring-loaded knife and an expandable baton were found. Officers also found the man to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, and a scales. Furthermore, police found that the man was already on a probation order with conditions that included a curfew, and not to be in possession of weapons, drugs, or weigh scales.

The 37-year-old Kingston man was arrested and is now facing 15 charges.
