Five people facing charges after stolen property recovered

Illegal drugs and a large quantity of stolen property was recovered by members of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) teams after execution of search warrants at two residences. Seven individuals were arrested between the two scenes, and two were released unconditionally.

On Wednesday, Jun. 23, 2021, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit, jointly with Tyendinaga Police Service, L&A County OPP, Frontenac OPP, Prince Edward County OPP, Tactics and Rescue unit (TRU), and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed the search warrants as a result of an ongoing investigation into Break and Enters and Drug Trafficking in Frontenac, Lennox and Addington County and Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, according to a release from the OPP.

Police executed search warrants at a residence on Queen Street in Marlbank and Old Highway 2 in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.  

Officers seized suspected Methamphetamine, suspected Cocaine and a large quantity of stolen property including but not limited to an ATV, air compressors, jack hammer, catalytic converters, several generators, hundreds of tools, weed eaters, boat motors, chainsaws, fishing tackle and over $4500.00 in Canadian currency, according to the release.

As a result of the investigation police have charged:

Matthew Bolton, age 36, of Tyendinaga First nation, Lucas Charbonneau, age 18, of Cornwall and Zachary Dorrington, age 30 of Deseronto jointly with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance. 

The three accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville in August, 2021. 

Tanner Sweet, age 26, of Tweed with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over 5000,
  • Four Counts of Fail to Comply with Probation,
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to the Prohibition Order, and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance.

This accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of Justice in Belleville on June 28, 2021.

Police further charged a 17 year old male youth of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,
  • Fail to Comply with Probation, and
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance.

The youth is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice youth court in Belleville in August, 2021.
