Firearm incident in Picton sends one to hospital

A firearms incident in Picton over the Victoria Day long weekend saw one person transported to hospital with serious injuries.

According to a media release, the Prince Edward County (PEC) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating the firearm incident which took place in Picton shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Police stated that officers were called to an address on Union Street in Picton.

“A firearm had been discharged and one individual was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” OPP said.

The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit conducted an extensive search of the area, according to the release.

Officers believe this was not a random incident and that there was no risk to the general public.

In response to Kingstonist inquiries, Bill Dickson, Media Relations Coordinator for the OPP East Region, confirmed that the person taken to hospital did suffer a gunshot injury.
