Fire at Goodyear plant in Greater Napanee
The fire departments of Greater Napanee and Stone Mills responded to a working roof top fire at the Goodyear tire plant on the morning of Wednesday, Dec 30, 2020.

Crews were dispatched to the plant at 388 Goodyear Rd in Greater Napanee at around 8:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke coming from the ceiling.
At that time, welders had been working on the roof in the affected area and the work is believed to have started the fire.
Crews initially attempted to knock down the fire without cutting the roof open, but the fire persisted inside of the ceiling structure and eventually crews were forced to cut open the roof in order to fully knock down the fire.
By 10:30 a.m., the fire was believed to be knocked down. In a social media post on the situation, Deputy Fire Chief Bill Hammond said that the fire was under “control and (that) crews were conducting overhaul and searching for extensions.”
There were no reported injuries from the incident. The total cost of the damage is not yet known.
