Brockville Police are currently investigating after a female was located deceased at a Waste Management facility on Friday, Jul. 22, 2022.
According to Brockville Police, staff from the Waste Management Landfill and Recycling Facility on California Road in Brockville contacted the local police just after 10 a.m. that day. The staff indicated that an unidentified, deceased female had been located within their recycling sorting facility.
“Officers from the Brockville Police Service including members of the Criminal Investigations office attended to the site and located the female amongst a load of cardboard which had been transferred to the Brockville site from another waste transfer site in Eastern Ontario,” Brockville Police said.
At the time, the local police contained the scene and involved vehicles before requesting the assistance of the East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Forensic Identification Unit. As a result, the deceased female was positively identified.
“Next of kin have been located and notified and at the request of the family her identity will not be released,” police said in a press release on Tuesday, Jul. 26, 2022, noting that the female was in her 30s at the time of her death, and from the Napanee-Belleville-Trenton area.
Police also indicated that a forensic post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, Jul. 25, 2022, at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital. Officers from the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and Brockville Police attended that examination, and now await the completion of further tests to complete the post-mortem report.
“Investigating officers are in contact with other police agencies in an effort to determine how the young women arrived at the Brockville facility. At present, there is no information to suggest there is any risk to members of the public,” Brockville Police said.
