Fatal collision on Highway 401 near Mallorytown claims one life

Update (Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at 11:45 a.m.):
In response to inquiries from Kingstonist, the OPP has now clarified that the passenger vehicle involved in the fatal collision in near Mallorytown earlier this week did not cross the median into oncoming traffic.
While both the passenger vehicle and the transport truck were travelling eastbound on Highway 401, the passenger vehicle — which had been travelling in the right-hand lane ahead of the transport — “made a left turn towards the centre median in front of the eastbound traffic… for reasons that are still under investigation,” Acting Sergeant Erin Cranton, Media Relations Coordinator for the OPP East Region explained.
Cranton further explained that the passenger vehicle had three people travelling in it: the 22-year-old passenger from Ajax, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, the other passenger, who was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver, who was uninjured in the collision.
Admitting that the collision is difficult to explain, Cranton said that the investigation remains ongoing and that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured it on a dashboard camera is asked to contact the Leeds County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
