UPDATE: Fatal collision on Highway 401 closes highway in both directions

Update:
OPP said the deceased has been identified as a 20-year-old female from Quebec, however her name is being withheld while next of kin notifications are pending.
As of 12 p.m. all lanes of the highway have been reopened and the investigation is ongoing.

A single vehicle rollover collision on Highway 401 westbound closed the highway in both directions in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 30, 2021.
At approximately 2 a.m., officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and other emergency crews responded to the collision which occurred in the westbound lanes just west of the County Road 4 exit.
L&A County OPP and the OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) are currently on scene investigating, according to a release from OPP on the same date. Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed and the Emergency Detour Route (EDR) was being used.
As of approximately 9 a.m. one lane of the westbound Highway 401 was reopened to traffic, while the eastbound lanes remain closed. OPP said eastbound traffic is getting off at Palace road south to County Road 2 and going east to County Road 4, north to Highway 401.
As a result of the collision, one occupant is deceased at the scene and the two other passengers were taken to hospital with injuries, according to the release. The identity of the deceased is being withheld until notifications to family have been made. OPP said an update will be released at a later time.
