UPDATE: Fatal collision closes eastbound Highway 401

UPDATE (Friday, Jan. 21, 2022):

The identity of the driver who died in the single-vehicle collision has been released by South Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police. Transport truck driver Norman Scott age 58, of Chatham, Ontario, perished in the incident which closed Highway 401 eastbound between Highway 15 and Joyceville Road for over nine hours yesterday.

The highway reopened around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022.

Highway 401 eastbound remains closed between Highway 15 and Joyceville Road after a single-vehicle collision on the roadway earlier today resulted in a fatality.

Around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, South Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Kingston Fire department and Frontenac Paramedics responded to the single transport truck collision eastbound on Highway 401 in the city of Kingston.

According to a release from the OPP, the driver of the transport truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identification is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

OPP said that the eastbound section of the 401 between Highway 15 and Joyceville Road will remain closed as the OPP Quinte Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team (TIME) and the Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigator (TCI) units continue with the investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
