A Kingston resident’s refusal to pay for a taxi fare ended up earning them an arrest on an outstanding warrant on top of their new charges.

Police were called to the 600 block of Fleet Street at around 8:30 p.m. on the evening of Friday, Jun. 28, 2024 for a report of an Amey’s Taxi customer, a 38-year-old local individual, refusing to pay for the taxi fare.

“Upon the officers’ arrival it was also determined the person had an outstanding bench warrant, plus were on conditions not to enter or use that taxi company due to earlier charges of Transportation Fraud approximately one month prior,” Kingston Police relayed in response to Kingstonist inquiries about the incident.

The individual was subsequently arrested both in relation to the outstanding arrest warrant and these new charges.

Police say the individual was held for a bail hearing, and is now facing new charges of Transportation Fraud, Fail to comply with a release order, and Fail to attend court.
