Extensive damages caused after early morning Cataraqui Street fire

On the morning of Sunday, Jul. 11, 2021, Kingston Fire & Rescue (KFR) responded to a structure fire in a vacant building on Cataraqui Street. According to KFR, heavy equipment was brought in to assist and ensure hot spots were extinguished. Due to the extensive fire damage and structural instability, Fire Prevention will not be completing an on-scene investigation. KFR said the dollar loss is unknown.
No injuries were reported as a result of this fire. Although the address, a currently vacant building, often has people staying inside of it for shelter at night, there is no indication anyone was in the building at the time of the fire.
KFR has contacted the owner to ensure the building and property are secured. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Kingston Police.
