Evacuation of Walmart due to mislabeled packages

Police have cleared and determined there was no threat to staff nor to the public following an evacuation at Walmart this morning.

The evacuation occurred just after 9 a.m. on Friday, Jun. 28, 2019. According to Kingston Police, the evacuation took place after a shipment arrived at the Walmart location that was improperly labeled.

“There was a shipment that was delivered there that was mislabelled which led employees to believe that there was a threat,” said Const. Ashley Gutheinz, media relations officer for Kingston Police.

“The building was evacuated at 0906 hrs and police investigation confirmed that there was no danger to public safety and have since left the scene.”

Gutheinz underlined that there was no bomb threat, as had been speculated on social media.

The business has since reopened, and normal operations have resumed.
