Erratic driving on Bath Road results in multiple charges for Amherstview man

An Amherstview driver is facing multiple charges after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Bath Road near the Loyalist Plaza in Amherstview.

According to a release from the OPP, at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, Apr. 3, 2023, officers from the Lennox and Addington Detachment were patrolling through the Loyalist Plaza when they noted the erratic driving. After initiating a traffic stop, officers determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the detachment for processing. 

As a result, Sheldon Welch, age 31, of Amherstview, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operating a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Stunt driving

Welch was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. 

“The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways,” OPP said in the release, noting that members of the public are urged to report Impaired driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive, or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
