#ygkChallenge: Turn the Heat Off

VIP, Chinese restaurant, takeout, Kingston, OntarioWelcome to Kingstonist’s inaugural weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we’ll be establishing a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.

This week’s challenge encourages you to:

Turn/keep the heat off: save a bit of cash and resist the urge to turn on your furnace, fireplace, baseboard and space heaters.  We think this is a fairly easy challenge for most people to complete, as it’s only October and the overnight low temperature over the next week is not expected to dip below 6°.  If that’s too chilly for you, may we suggest bundling up and adding a few more layers to your bed?

Sign up and commit to completing this week’s challenge by commenting below with an “I’m in“, “challenge accepted“, “en garde” or something along those lines.  Further, help us spread the word via Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag: #ygkchallenge. As you progress throughout this week’s task, please feel free to lend others a helping hand by providing tips on how you achieved success.

Thanks to Jason Pier in DC for today’s photo of an ice cold radiator.

Ideally, we're aiming to keep the furnace and fireplace off until mid-November. So it should go without saying, count me in for the next week.

Fully support this one. We are still sleeping with the windows open it has been so nice lately. Plus curling up with a fuzzy blanket and cuddling is one of the best things about fall!

We haven't turned our heat on yet and we still have our upstairs windows open at night. We're in!
Maybe do this again in two months! And then another two months…

I'm hoping to not turn on the heat until absolutely needed. Mid-November is roughly my goal as well.

I'm in, too… but mostly because we've still got our windows open.
