Wind Warning for Kingston and area
Environment Canada has issued a Wind Warning for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park.
Environment Canada says the strong southwesterly winds gusting to near 90 km/h that are occurring this afternoon will also continue into early evening. Higher wind gusts are possible in the expected thunderstorms. These strong winds are associated with a cold front that will track over the area late this afternoon and early this evening.
Slightly weaker northwest winds gusting to 70 km/h are also expected this evening after the cold front passes. Winds will then diminish overnight.
Environment Canada has also issued a Tornado Watch for some areas north of Kingston, such as Yarker, Sharbot Lake, Smiths Falls and Perth as well as areas east of Kingston, such as Brockville.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Environment Canada urges you to be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.
