#ygkChallenge: Spring Thaw Clean Up

spring thaw, clean up, garbageWelcome to Kingstonist’s weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we establish a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.

This week’s challenge encourages you to:

Clean up the winter mess. This week’s challenge is one we write annually and to be honest, I didn’t think we’d be able to do it as scheduled this year because of, well, you know. (I think we’re all done talking about the W word.) But, after last night’s rain, I look out my window with optimism as I see less and less snow…and more and more garbage on the street. So, it’s kind of, almost, sort of the time of year to start cleaning up after winter.  As your lawn, garden, sidewalk or driveway start to show themselves again, the garbage that has accumulated over the last few months will rear its ugly face too, so pick it up and toss it out. Better yet, grab a bag and pick up trash as you go for a stroll in your neighbourhood, at your local park or even just on your own block. If we all do our part to tidy up the streets as the snow melts, spring will be that much more beautiful and enjoyable – and we’ve earned it!  I know it’s still a tad chilly, but happy spring everyone! We made it!

Sign up and commit to completing this week’s challenge by commenting below with an “I’m in“, “challenge accepted“, “en garde” or something along those lines. Further, help us spread the word via Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag: #ygkchallenge. As you work towards completing this week’s task, please feel free to lend others a helping hand by providing tips on how you achieved success.

Challenge accepted. I've been griping plenty about the crap blowing around our neighbourhood. Time to shut up and do something. :)

We usually do this right after winter time. Now is winter. It's hard to clean up well our garden and sidewalk.
