Severe Thunderstorm Watches and Warnings in effect for Kingston and surrounding areas

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from Napanee to Consecon, and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Picton and Sandbanks Park.

As of 6:57 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists say they are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 6 kilometres south of Marmora to Tweed, moving southeast at 40 km/h.

Environment Canada advises that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
