Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Kingston area
Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton and Sandbanks Park.
Scattered thunderstorms are moving east-southeastward through or toward portions of the regions.
These storms are capable of producing damaging winds and large hail. Frequent lightning and torrential downpours are also associated.Isolated wind gusts to 100 km/h and toonie sized hail are possible.
If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
