#ygkChallenge: Clean Up Winter’s Mess
The #ygkChallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkChallenge encourages you to:
Clean up the winter mess. Now, I don’t want to jinx things here but, looking at the long term forecast, I think it’s safe to say that spring is on its way. That means that the snow is nearly gone, revealing the nastiness that winter can bring. From dog poop to cigarette butts and other general litter, our city is not at its cleanest at the moment. As we do every year around this time, this week we encourage you to lend a hand and help tidy up our pretty town for spring’s arrival. If you’re heading out on foot to run some errands or just to go for a walk, bring along a bag and collect litter as you go. Didn’t think ahead? That’s OK, if you’re walking anywhere near downtown, you’re bound to run into a trash can or recycling bin, so don’t just walk past that plastic bottle in the gutter, grab it and throw it in the appropriate place. I know that those who leave these little gifts are in the minority and it can be frustrating for the rest of us to have to clean up after them but it’s reality, and if we all chip in, we can make our city a nicer place to live and visit.
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
