Kingston and Prince Edward County could face possible freezing rain on the evening of Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, and overnight.

Environment Canada issued as special weather statement for the area, stating that a band of snow, at times mixed with ice pellets, may affect the area this afternoon. Little accumulation is likely during this time, with “perhaps a few centimeters possible,” Environment Canada said.

The areas expected to be affected are:

  • Kingston, Odessa & Frontenac Islands
  • Napanee & Consecon
  • Picton & Sandbanks Provincial Park

The precipitation is expected to become more significant in the evening. A period of freezing rain is possible late this evening before the precipitation changes to rain overnight, according to the statement.

Motorists are urged to use caution during the evening and overnight hours. Untreated roads may be slippery. Drivers are also reminded to remove any snow or ice from their vehicles prior to driving – failure to do so can result in dangerous driving as well as fines.

Kingstonist will monitor the forecast and updates will be provided as they become available.
