Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Kingston and the surrounding areas as of 1:14 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022.

The warning is in effect for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton and Sandbanks Park. Environment Canada is forecasting very strong wind gusts near 70 km/h, with the possibility of localized gusts in excess of 80 km/h.

The special weather statement notes that the winds are expected Saturday afternoon and into Saturday evening. Those in or near these areas should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary precautions.

“A cold front associated with a strengthening area of low pressure will move across the area Saturday evening. Strong southerly winds beginning Saturday afternoon ahead of the front will veer to southwesterly Saturday evening,” the statement reads. “Winds will begin to ease later Saturday evening.”

The weather agency also stated that loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage, and isolated power outages are possible.
