Environment Canada advises waterspouts possible on Lake Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a statement advising that “conditions are favourable for the development of waterspouts this afternoon.”
In the weather statement, which was issued at 10:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, the weather agency said that vulnerable vessels are at risk of damage or capsizing.
“Wind speeds inside the spray ring of a waterspout are 45 knots or higher. Mariners are urged to take all necessary precautions and prepare for the possibility of waterspout activity,” Environment Canada warned.
“Postpone voyage or seek safe harbour if possible. Waterspouts are generally isolated in nature although they can also occur in families of two or more. Waterspouts sometimes appear as funnel clouds with swirling water visible near the surface.”
This is a developing weather situation. Kingstonist will continue to monitor the potential storms and provide updates if/when more information becomes available.
