The statement, in effect for the Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park areas, states that strong winds are expected with the potential of gusting between 80 and 90 km/h, which could possibly lead to utility outages. The winds will build through the day, with the strongest gusts in the forecast for the afternoon.

“Moderate south winds gusting up to 50 km/h will develop Thursday morning. Winds will then shift to the southwest and strengthen to up to 90 km/h in the afternoon with the passage of a cold front,” Environment Canada said.

The national weather agency also advised that wind warnings may be issued for some areas as the system approaches.

Kingstonist will continue to monitor this weather situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
