Environment Canada advises of strong winds in Kingston and area

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Kingston and the area on Tuesday, Apr. 21, 2020.

The statement is in effect for the Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park areas, and advises that cold arctic air returns with strong and gusty west winds are expected.

“West winds with frequent gusts of 70 km/h will occur today in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front that blasted across the region this morning. A few gusts to 80 km/h are possible this afternoon,” the national weather agency said. “These winds are strong enough to cause isolated power outages.”

According to Environment Canada, these winds are expected to slowly diminish in the evening.

Kingstonist will continue to monitor this weather situation and provide updates of any changes.
