Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Kingston and the area regarding a freezing rain forecast for the coming days.

The freezing rain is expected on the night of Wednesday, Feb. 20 and into the morning on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019.

“Freezing rain is expected as another low pressure system developing over the Southern Plains moves toward the Great Lakes,” the statement reads.

“Snow will begin Wednesday evening, then change through ice pellets to freezing rain later Wednesday night. Most areas may receive a few centimetres of snow and ice pellets before the transition to freezing rain.”

The freezing rain should then come to an end Thursday morning as temperatures rise above the zero degree mark. Untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery, and travel may be affected, Environment Canada advises.

Kingstonist will monitor this situation and provide any updates and information as it becomes available.
