Employee charged with theft from Collins Bay Penitentiary pharmacy

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad, under direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, have charged a Kingston resident in connection with an alleged theft at the Collins Bay Institution in Kingston.

OPP say that on Dec. 4, 2020 the Penitentiary Squad, in conjunction with the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), began an investigation into theft of prescription medication from the institution’s pharmacy, which is believed to have occurred sometime during October or early November, 2020.

OPP say that as a result of the investigation, Greg Cox, a 59-year-old resident of Kingston, has been charged under section 334(b) of the Criminal Code with Theft under $5000.

According to the College of Nurses of Ontario, Cox has been a Registered Nurse at Collins Bay Institution since 2007.

OPP say he has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on Feb. 25, 2021.
