After steamrolling their way through the Big East tournament, Kingston native Aaliyah Edwards and the UConn Huskies (24-1) are poised to take on High Point in the round of 32 to kick off the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament on Sunday, Mar. 21, 2021 at 8 p.m.. The tournament bracket was revealed on an ESPN broadcast Monday night.

In her first year of college Edwards, a former Frontenac Falcon, has shown the world that she is for real. Edwards averaged 10.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while sporting the navy and white uniform of the University of Connecticut — good enough to earn her 6th woman of the year, the trophy designated to the best player not part of her team’s starting lineup.

The Huskies are a perennial powerhouse when it comes to women’s basketball, but haven’t won the women’s tournament since 2016 — their fourth consecutive at the time. Meanwhile, the High Point Panthers led the Big South Conference with an overall record of 22 wins and six losses.
