A Napanee driver has been arrested and charged after another citizen contacted police with concerns about his driving on Highway 401.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to follow up on the traffic complaint just after 1 a.m. According to the OPP, officers located the vehicle in question travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Napanee. Police conducted a traffic stop, and the driver was arrested and taken to the L&A OPP Detachment Headquarters for further testing. That testing determined the driver was operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, the OPP said in a press release later the same day.

As a result, Paul Coish, 52, of Napanee, was charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired (alcohol)
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired with blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit

Coish was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in November. Coish’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days. If convicted, that suspension will be lengthened to at least one year. Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for 45 days, and Coish will be responsible for any related fees or fines.
