Driver towing boat charged after colliding with ditch in Loyalist Township

The driver of a vehicle that went off the road in Loyalist Township may be facing charges, but they are lucky that’s the most impactful outcome of the incident.
The single vehicle collision in Loyalist Township resulted in time-consuming work for those cleaning it up, but there were no injuries to the lone driver involved. The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, when the driver of a vehicle towing a small boat travelling eastbound on Taylor Kidd Boulevard left the roadway. The vehicle ended up on its side in the ditch, with the boat upright, but also in the ditch. The accident occurred just east of County Road 6 on Taylor Kidd Boulevard in Amherstview.

According to the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers from their detachment, along with crews from Loyalist Fire and Rescue and L&A County Paramedic Services, responded to the incident shortly thereafter.
“The vehicle and boat were towed from the scene,” said Constable David Yome, Media Relations Officer for the L&A OPP, in response to Kingstonist inquiries.
Taylor Kidd Boulevard was not closed to other vehicles, apart from pauses in traffic to allow tow trucks to haul the vehicle and boat out of the ditch.
According to Const. Yome, the driver involved in the incident was subsequently charged with careless driving.
