A driver from Loyalist Township is facing charges after driving erratically on Highway 401 westbound in Napanee, entering the ditch, and then leaving the scene.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 17, 2022, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible single motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle that entered the ditch on Highway 401 westbound in Napanee.

Officers attended the area, according to a release from the OPP, however the vehicle had left the scene prior to police arrival. OPP said that officers received multiple traffic complaints about the vehicle driving erratically, and were able to locate and stop the vehicle that was now travelling eastbound on Highway 401 in Napanee. At this time, officers spoke to the driver and observed them to be showing signs of impairment, according to the release.

As a result of an investigation, L&A County OPP have charged Alexis Perin, age 23, of Loyalist Township, with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt

Perin was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in April 2022. Their licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Perin will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
