A collision on Monday, Apr. 13, 2020 that closed down one lane of Highway 401 for a several hours has resulted in charges for the lone transport driver involved in the incident.

Just before 3 p.m. that date, the tractor trailer in question was travelling westbound on Highway 401 just west of the Highway 38 on ramp in Kingston. According to the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police who were called to the scene, the driver of the truck struck the concrete barrier on the south side of the westbound lanes. The truck then travelled across both westbound lanes and went through the guardrail on the north side of the lanes. A fuel tank was damaged in the collision, causing a fuel spill.

The Ministry of Transportation assisted the OPP with closing one westbound lane while awaiting tow crews, and then eventually closed both lanes for a short period while the truck was removed.

The Ministry of the Environment was contacted and is managing the clean-up of the fuel spill. The right hand westbound lane of the highway remained closed well into Tuesday, Apr. 14, 2020.

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in the incident, and was subsequently charged with careless driving.
