A large police presence at a reported collision on Bath Road near McEwan Drive alerted those in the area that something had happened, but it was difficult to figure out, as no vehicles appeared to be involved in the collision.

This occurred just before 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jun. 2, 2024, when police closed down a westbound lane of traffic on Bath Road, However, those who attended the scene quickly found out that there was only one vehicle involved in the collision – and that vehicle had fled the scene after striking a pedestrian. According to witnesses, the vehicle that struck the pedestrian was damaged during the event, leaving debris on Bath Road. Police remained on scene until close to 6 p.m. gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses.

Those actions led to the driver of the vehicle being identified, according to Constable Anthony Colangeli, a Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police. Police located the driver a short while later, Colangeli said. That driver, a 42-year-old from Kingston, was criminally charged for leaving the scene of the accident.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time. According to police, while it initially appeared the pedestrian had been severely injured, officers now believe all injuries were non-life-threatening.

Kingstonist will continue to follow this story and provide updated coverage if/when more information becomes available.
