Driver charged after refusing to comply with drug, alcohol testing

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver travelling westbound on County Road 2 towards Odessa.  

According to a release from OPP dated Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, police stopped the vehicle at the intersection of County Road 6 and determined that the driver was showing signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further processing by a Drug Recognition Expert officer. The driver was uncooperative and refused to complete the testing.

As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have charged Karen Marie Oke, age 32, of Greater Napanee with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand,
  • Breach of recognizance,
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis readily available,
  • Drive with Passenger under 16 fail to properly wear seatbelt.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in March 2021. The accused’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Oke will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
