Driver charged after multi-vehicle collision at Odessa gas station

A multi-vehicle collision at a gas station just off Highway 401 in Odessa involved a “chain reaction” that luckily resulted in minor injuries and didn’t continue beyond four vehicles.

The incident occurred at the entrance/exit at the Mr. Gas gas station located on County Road 6 just south of Highway 401 at approximately 2:55 p.m. on Friday, Jun. 16, 2023. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Loyalist Fire and Rescue, and Frontenac Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene, which involved four vehicles – one of which lost a tire that ended up in the middle of the busy roadway. In total, six people, including children, sustained minor injuries, according to the OPP.
County Road 6 was closed in the area for a short period of time in order to remove debris and some of the damaged vehicles from the roadway. But the fact the incident didn’t lead to a further pile-up of vehicles is one worth noting, given that the collision occurred just metres from the on and off ramps to Ontario’s busiest highway.
“Police determined that the vehicle that caused the collisions proceeded from a stop sign when the road was not clear and struck another vehicle, which caused the chain reaction of other collisions,” said Constable David Yome, Media Relations Officer for the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the OPP, in response to Kingstonist inquiries.

As a result, that driver was charged with careless driving, according to the OPP.
Well there are issues at this junction, it’s extremely busy with traffic entering and exiting the 401 and the increase of traffic over the years. This will happen again and again until a fatality happens; sadly. Maybe then the infrastructure of this roadway will be fixed .
