Drive turned dive leads to charges

The driver of a vehicle that ploughed through a fence facing Bayridge Drive and ended up in a Crest Hill Street pool early on Monday morning has been charged with careless and distracted driving.

The driver was northbound on Bayridge Drive shortly before 4 a.m. on October 14 when he left the roadway, drove through a fence on the east side of the road and crashed into the pool at 943 Crest Hill Street. There was significant damage to the fence, pool and vehicle.

The driver sustained no injuries and Kingston Police say there was no evidence he was drunk at the time of the dunk. The driver was, however, charged with both Careless Driving as well as Operating a Handheld Communications Device.
