Downtown arrest over drug paraphernalia leads to further charges

A local individual is facing charges after Kingston Police Downtown Foot Patrol Officers noticed them in a stairwell, reportedly in possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a media release from Kingston Police, at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jun. 13, 2024, the officers were doing routine bicycle patrol along the waterfront path near Ontario and Earl Streets when they observed the individual in the stairwell.

“The individual was observed to be in possession of drug paraphernalia amongst other items. Upon speaking to the individual, it was discovered they were currently wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court,” police detailed.

“The individual was subsequently arrested on the strength of the warrant.”

According to the release, upon searching the individual, officers found they were in possession of multiple pieces of identification belonging to numerous other people. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined some of this identification had previously been reported stolen, police stated. 

A 49-year-old Kingston individual was charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Police said the accused was transported to the Kingston Police headquarters where they were held for a bail hearing.
