Development Dr fire causes $300,000 in damage

Kingston Fire Rescue, Police and Paramedics responded to 809 Development Dr. on the afternoon of Christmas Day for a report of a structure fire in a vacant home.

Dispatched to the scene shortly before 5 p.m., first arriving crews were confronted with heavy smoke and flames coming from the front and rear of the building.

The damage to the home is estimated by Kingston Fire & Rescue at $300,000. The Fire Prevention Division is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire and no residents were displaced since the home has been vacated as the property forms part of a planned development in the area.

In all, responding fire vehicles included 3 pumpers, 1 aerial tuck, 1 ladder truck, 1 rescue truck, a safety officer vehicle and a command vehicle.

Frontenac Paramedics were also staged on scene as a precaution and Kingston Police blocked the roadway at Truedell Rd and Development Dr for several hours as fire crews attacked the fire and conducted overhaul.

During the holiday season Kingston Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to never leave cooking unattended and to keep snow piles away from fire hydrants and furnace exhaust vents.
