Deseronto resident facing animal cruelty charges

A Deseronto resident is facing charges of cruelty to animals after an investigation by the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

According to a release from the OPP, in July of this year, officers received reports of an injured animal and animal abuse at a residence in Deseronto. With assistance from Animal Welfare Services and Animal Control, an investigation was completed and an arrest was made on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022. 

As a result, Adam Hayes, 39 years old, from Deseronto, was charged with:

  • Cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury – two counts
  • Cause damage or injury to animal or bird – fail to provide suitable/adequate food, water, care, shelter – two counts

OPP said that Hayes is in custody and awaiting a bail hearing.
