Kingston Police say they have identified the deceased individual recovered from the water in Anglin Bay yesterday.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021, police responded to a call in the area of 347 Wellington Street in regards to a deceased body that had been observed by a passerby in the water at this location.

The deceased individual was recovered from Lake Ontario with the collaboration of Kingston Fire and Rescue, Kingston Police and Frontenac Paramedics.

Kingston Police say that next of kin have now been notified and the deceased male has been identified as Robert Cummings, 51 years of age. Robert had been previously reported as a missing person on December 28, 2020 and attempts by police to locate him had proven unsuccessful.

“There has been an outpouring of support by the community in attempts to locate Robert since he was originally reported as missing and police are hopeful that this brings a sense of closure to his disappearance,” said Kingston Police Media Relations Officer Ash Gutheinz in a release.

Robert’s death has been deemed an accidental drowning and no foul play is suspected.
