Just after noon on Monday, Nov. 14, 2022, Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on Highway 2 between Abbey Dawn Road and Joyceville Road.

Highway 2 was closed for almost eight hours as firefighters battled the blaze that involved several buildings on a well-established farm.

In response to Kingstonist’s inquiries, Kingston Fire and Rescue said that, due to the extensive damage and structural instability, the cause of the fire cannot be determined and estimated damages are still to be determined

While there were no human casualties, Kingston Fire and Rescue confirmed that a “substantial amount” of dairy cows died in the fire.

Kingstonist will continue to follow this story and provide updates if/when more information becomes available.

While the flames turned to smoke from the roadside vantage point once firefighters had arrived on scene, the fire took hours to put out and ensure it wouldn’t reignite due to hotspots.
