Cyclist perishes in Highway 15 collision

A cyclist has died following a collision on Highway 15, in Kingston’s east end, on the afternoon of Saturday, Jul. 9, 2022.

Kingston Fire & Rescue, Frontenac Paramedics, Kingston Police and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the collision scene on Highway 15 near Cunningham Road at around 12:50 p.m., following a report that a car had collided with a cyclist. According to OPP, the cyclist was transported to hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.

“Frontenac OPP responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle on Highway 15 between Cunningham Road and Kingston Mills Road. The person riding the bicycle was transported to hospital by ambulance, but was later pronounced deceased. The investigation is ongoing.”

Highway 15 was closed from Cunningham Road to Kingston Mills Road for about eight hours as police conducted a collision reconstruction investigation.

OPP have now identified the victim as 90-year-old Hajiasad Ahangarant, from Kingston. As the investigation continues, it is not yet known if any charges will be laid stemming from this incident.
