CurlON’s Mixed Doubles Provincial Championship comes to Kingston

Cataraqui Golf & Country Club (CGCC) will host CurlON’s 2023 Mixed Doubles Provincial Championship later this month. From Friday, Feb. 24 to Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, 24 mixed doubles teams will compete here in Kingston for the honour of representing Ontario at the Canadian Mixed Doubles Competition in March.
According to a joint release from CGCC and CurlON, mixed doubles, with its fast-paced play, has gained popularity since its inclusion in the 2018 Winter Olympics when Canada’s John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes won the gold medal. A game is eight ends, five rocks per team with lots of rocks in play — and it’s all over in just one and a half hours.
“Wayne and Kim Tuck from the Ilderton Curling Club, the 2014 Canadian Mixed Doubles Champions, are in the field, which also includes many Ontario Tankard, Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and Brier participants,” the release reads. “We have one local team, Denise Mulville and Anthony Hale, from the Royal Kingston Curling Club competing in the event.”
Organizers said that pool play games are on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25, with game times being 9 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. each day. Finals are on Sunday, Feb. 26 with quarterfinals at 12 p.m., semi-finals at 3 p .m., and finals at 6 p.m.
