CSC suspects drone dropped package of marijuana and tobacco at Collins Bay Institution

A package containing contraband and unauthorized items has been seized at the medium security unit of Collins Bay Institution, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).
The package was seized “as a result of the vigilance of staff members,” CSC said in a press release on Friday, Mar. 22, 2019. The package was found at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 19, 2019.
The contraband items included 161.6 grams of tobacco, and 80.6 grams of marijuana. According to CSC, the seized items have an institutional value of approximately $11,660.
As a result of the seizure, Collins Bay Institution was placed on lockdown to allow staff to perform a general search. The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.
“We are suspecting it was a drone drop however are still investigating,” said Heather Hyndman, Assistant Warden Management Services, Collins Bay Institution.
Regularly scheduled visits to the Institution may be affected. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the Institution directly.
