CSC seizes three packages from perimeter of Collins Bay Institution

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is crediting the “vigilance of staff members” for the seizure of three packages containing contraband and unauthorized items at Collins Bay Institution.
The three packages were located on the perimeter of the medium security unit at the Institution between Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 14, 2019, according to a press release from CSC.
CSC said the first two packages were seized on Monday, May 6, 2019 at approximately 11 a.m. and contained contraband and unauthorized items including marijuana, tobacco, and multiple smartphones and accessories. The total estimate institutional value of that seizure is $23,000.
The seizure of the third package was seized on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at approximately 10 a.m. That packaged contained marijuana with a total estimated institutional value of $44,000.
Police have been notified of all seizures and CSC is currently investigating the incidents.
“The Correctional Service of Canada is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and a secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions,” CSC said in the press release on Thursday, May 16, 2019.
