CSC reports inmate death at Millhaven’s Regional Treatment Centre

An inmate has died while in custody at the Regional Treatment Centre at Millhaven Institution, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

“On Wednesday, Jun. 12, 2019, Robert Simpson, an inmate from the Regional Treatment Centre at Millhaven Institution died while in our custody of apparent natural causes,” CSC wrote in a press release on Friday, Jun. 14, 2019.

At the time of his death,  Simpson, 86, had been serving a sentence of 12 years for indecent assault and rape since March 1, 2017.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that police and the Regional Coroner be notified.
